Are we getting the right advice on Air Conditioning

There was an interesting article in the Daily Mail this week on an experiment carried out by the Department for Climate and Energy Change. To see what savings could be made by not using the air conditioning system installed they decided to take their own advice and open all the windows in the office to promote air movement.

How long did this experiment last? Three Days , it was abandoned after three days because officials complained about noise from building works, security risks and ‘the wrong kind of breeze’. Continue reading

80% of UK Air Conditioning Fails to Qualify for the Enhanced Capital Allowance

Daikin UK have released information on the recent changes to the Enhanced Capital Allowance qualification. These changes will result in 80% of the Air Conditioning products available in the market being taken from the list.

What is the ECA? The Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme is a key part of the Government’s programme to manage climate change. It provides businesses with enhanced tax relief for investments in equipment that meets published energy-saving criteria. Continue reading

Changing Buying Habits – Initiative 2 of The Green gateway

One of the major obstacles we face when talking climate change is peoples habits. If we can change the way everybody views their habits we will be on the first step in helping the environment.

The main habit we have to overcome in the air conditioning industry is our buying habits.

For years the prices of air conditioning systems have been falling and rightly so in an open market. However we now start looking at life cycle costs and not just the bottom line as many energy efficient systems cost more initially but can make considerable savings over the life of the equipment, with payback periods of the extra cost easily within the first few years of operation.
